What is a Certified Financial Planner™ professional?
According to the Wall Street Journal, there are more than 100 different titles and designations used in the financial services industry. Most are mere marketing tools and are easy to obtain. Many designations are used to provide a professional aura for salespeople who work with brokers and insurance companies. |
| The Journal calls the Certified Financial Planner™ or CFP® mark the gold standard in the financial advisory industry because it requires a strong commitment to obtain and maintain the mark. CFP® professionals must complete prerequisite educational standards before being allowed to sit for the two-day comprehensive CFP® exam. The exam requires the aspiring financial planner to show competency in all areas of financial planning—including tax planning, investments, estate planning, employee benefits and insurance. There are also industry experience requirements and strict continuing education standards required to obtain and maintain the CFP® mark. Please visit www.CFP.net to learn more about the profession of financial planning and the CFP® mark. |
| Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, Certified Financial Planner™ and federally registered CFP (with flame design) in the United States, which awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board’s initial and ongoing certification requirements. |
